Separate a real constraint from an untested assumption
The Eight of Swords asks how a difficult situation is limiting your options. Some restrictions are real; others may be assumptions that need checking. The card is most useful when it helps identify a specific barrier and possible support, without blaming you for circumstances you did not choose.
Upright meaning
Name the constraint precisely: a rule, unavailable resource, missing skill or anticipated reaction. Different barriers need different responses.
Look for one option that can be investigated safely. An incomplete path is still worth examining, but the image does not prove that leaving a difficult situation is easy.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, you may be recognising an option or obtaining help that was previously unavailable. Check what has actually changed.
It can also highlight pressure to feel free before practical restrictions have eased. Give the remaining obstacles their proper weight.

You assume every session is compulsory and your work shift overlaps one evening. The Eight appears as Situation.
Ask the organiser about attendance requirements before ruling yourself out. There may be a recorded session or a later intake; there may also be no workable accommodation. Either answer is better information. The reading suggests checking a specific assumption while respecting the genuine constraint of your shift.
