Protect resources without making them unusable
The Four of Pentacles examines the desire to keep resources secure. A reserve or clear limit can be sensible. Holding too tightly can also prevent a resource from serving its purpose. Ask what you are protecting, what it costs and whether the rule still fits the situation.
Upright meaning
Name the reason for the limit. Protecting essential time or materials is easier to explain when you can describe what they need to remain available for.
Review the boundary occasionally. A useful reserve is different from accumulating things indefinitely because releasing anything feels uncomfortable.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, you may be ready to loosen an arrangement or finding it difficult to maintain a necessary limit. Look at the actual consequences.
Generosity and overspending of effort are not the same. Make changes deliberately rather than swinging from total control to having no boundary.

When handing over responsibility, provide the access and information required. Letting go of a title while retaining every decision is an incomplete handover.
Time, attention and materials
Give stored materials an intended use and review point. Keeping something safe indefinitely may prevent anyone from benefiting from it.

Question: How should our club manage equipment that I have been keeping at home?
You store the club’s tools carefully, but others cannot use them without arranging access through you. The Four appears as Obstacle.
List the tools, agree on a booking and return process, and find a storage arrangement that protects them while allowing shared use. The care you have provided still matters. The reading asks whether the current form of protection is serving the purpose of a shared resource.

As Advice, establish a clear reserve or boundary. As Situation, the Four may describe an arrangement organised around holding and protecting.

No. A wish for security can be reasonable. Examine the specific boundary and its effects rather than assigning yourself a fixed label.

The card cannot decide that. Clarify what the resource is for, what you need to retain and what use or sharing would be appropriate.
